Types of Services

Our Sunday Services are held at 8:30AM and 11:00 AM.  Holy Communion is offered at all of these services.  Services last approximately 1 hour.  The schedule remains the same in the summer.

We have two major styles of Sunday service:

LBW (Lutheran Book of Worship)

The LBW service is the traditional liturgical service using the second setting from the Lutheran Book of Worship.  It is used for almost all 8:30 Sunday Services and about half of the 11:00 Sunday Services.  The church organ is used as accompaniment for the Liturgy and Hymns.  The choir sings at about half of the 8:30 and half of the 11:00 services.

Holy Cross celebrates Holy Communion at all of the LBW services.

Parts of the liturgy may be played on your computer.

Contemporary Celebration

This service is lead by our Music Team, consisting of Acoustic and Bass Guitar, Bongos, Drums, and other instruments, in addition to singers.  This service is used at the 11:00 service on the 2nd and 4th Sunday's of each month.

Holy Cross celebrates Holy Communion at all of the Contemporary Celebration services.

Special Services

Special services are held at various times of the year such as:

Our Sanctuary

Our Sanctuary was built in 1981, with the previous sanctuary being what is now our parish hall.  It measures 60 feet by 60 feet inside, with the peak of the ceiling being about 50 feet.

Although the Sanctuary is square, it is set up such that the center isle is on the diagonal, leading toward the free standing altar.

The high vaulted ceiling allows for 4 stained glass windows, which can be seen by clicking here.  The framing of these windows were a constant source of "spontaneous baptism" during the rainy season.  After failing to find a contractor which could fix this, members of the congregation took on the project themselves, with tremendous results.  The windows have not leaked since.

Sanctuary Furniture
The Altar, communion rails, pulpit, baptismal font, and Paschal Candle stand were all custom made for the sanctuary from myrtle wood obtained from Oregon.  The pieces were made at different times from myrtle wood which was all acquired at the same time.  The Altar was made around 1983, shortly followed by the communion rails, followed by the baptismal font, followed by the Paschal Candle stand in 1992.  The most recent piece is the Lectern, made in 1999.

Sanctuary Organ
The Rogers combination pipe and electronic organ was installed in early 1989, with 4 ranks of pipes.  It was dedicated on March 3, 1989.  The organ is on a platform with wheels, allowing it to be wheeled out into the middle of the Sanctuary for a concert.  The only time that this has been done so for was at the dedication.

Piano and Clavinova
In the Fall of 2001 the congregation purchased a new Yamaha C3 6' 1" Conservatory Grand Piano, and a Yamaha Clavinova CVP-107 electronic piano.  These fine instruments replaced a piano which had served us well for many years, but was showing its age.  Information on these instruments can be found on our original fund raising page for these instruments.

Sound and Video Systems
The sanctuary has very good acoustics, and was used for many years without a sound reinforcement system, but there is now a high quality sound system installed, with microphones on the pulpit and altar, as well as several wireless microphones.  It greatly helps when people with softer voices are reading the lessons.  It is also used by our Music Team during contemporary services for microphones and guitars.  The Clavinova may also make use of it.

The Sanctuary is also outfitted with an audio and video recording system.  Stereo microphones are hung from the ceiling, and a remotely controlled camera is mounted at the back of the sanctuary.  The camera feeds a TV in the Narthex and Nursery, as well as a VCR for recording the service.  The camera can be panned, tilted, and zoomed remotely.  The system is often used for weddings and special programs.  The sound system includes a CD recorder to directly record to a CD-R.

Capacity
The capacity of the church is about 200 worshipers in the pews, 250 with the addition chairs along the back, and an additional 25 or so in the choir.
